The answer may surprise you. These are the people who have to love your manuscript before your dream editor or agent will even read it.
In this free webinar, we'll demystify what gatekeepers do and give you tips for getting past the first read and onto picture book success!
Plus, they'll answer your questions!
Editorial Assistant
Viking Children's Books
AZ Hackett (she/her) is an editorial assistant at Viking Children’s Books, one of Penguin Random House’s many imprints. She officially began her publishing career during the Summer of 2021, as an editorial intern at Candlewick Press and a We Need Diverse Books grantee.
In December of 2021, AZ graduated from Emerson College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, with a concentration in Fiction and a minor in African-American & Africana Studies. After graduating she began working at Viking and is pursuing her Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at The New School.
Publishing Coordinator
Penguin Young Readers
Claire Tattersfield is publishing coordinator across Viking Children’s Books and Flamingo Books. She began her career at Penguin Young Readers in 2019 after graduating from the University of Vermont with a degree in political science and global studies and a minor in Spanish. She supports Flamingo and Viking with picture books and a dash of young adult and middle grade. When she is not running around helping the Vikings and Flamingos with their wonderful titles she can be found enjoying satire, calling her friends to come pick her up because she accidentally walked ten miles too far, eating homemade baked goods (made by other people), or watering her plants (of which she has too many).
Claire’s first acquisition, Proper Badger Would Never!, is scheduled to be published in Spring of 2024.
Agent's Assistant
William Morris Endeavor (WME)
Gaby Caballero is an agent's assistant at William Morris Endeavor Books, where she works under Janine Kamouh and Angeline Rodriguez. She began her career as an editorial intern at Kweli Journal, a publication dedicated to uplifting emerging writers of color. After which, Gaby made the transition to the agency side of things as an editorial and publicity intern at Ayesha Pande Literary Agency.
When she's not reading the latest YA, Gaby can be found making a creamy tres leches or taking a good nap. Gaby is a 2020 graduate of Vassar College, where she earned her Bachelors in English with a minor in Greek and Roman Studies.
